Two permaculturalists

The main classroom at the PRI. We have spent the last few weeks up in The Channon in Northern NSW at the Permaculture Research Institute. I have been doing a permaculture  design certificate course and Kirsten has been volunteering. It has been one of the most inspiring periods of my life. I can't wait to get back to our land and get my hands dirty, I learnt so much that we can put to use straight away, about water management, sustainable building, soil fertility, as well as oodles of tid-bits to make life easier. I took a bunch of photos of the students, Geoff the teacher and his amazing property.

Permaculture is a design system that aims to meet the needs of humans in the most efficient and sustainable method possible. It doesn't have any dogma associated with it, there are no bibles or prophets, just practical, logical approaches to living. Most of the material covered in the PDC concerns the fundamental things that we all need to survive, things like water, shelter and food. Lately the human race hasn't been doing a very good job of these, and let's face it, if we can't manage those basic things in a sustainable manner what hope is there.

We made lot's of new friends and are now incredibly motivated to do things the right way. Lookout Milkwood, here we come!

smilies/smiley.gif Great to watch you video online! Good luck with it all. I am sure you are both keen to perma-everything ;-) Your website is now in my favourites, and I am keen to watch your progress.

I am off to Tasmania next week to work with Bill and the team. I can’t wait!

Take care.

Are you going to be using heritage seeds? I got a hold of some for black russian tomatos and they were the bomb.

Hey Paul,

Heritage seeds for sure... although we may be planting anything we can get our hands on for the next few years.

We just bought the seed savers handbook, unfortunately we missed out on visiting their garden while we were up that way in February.

We've been collecting lots of links on the subject of seeds too.
