Are you thinking about getting a small market garden growing? Maybe a crop of garlic to add to your weekender block, or a small microgreens enterprise in your backyard?
Maybe you’re dreaming of a fully-fledged livelihood in growing great organic food, but you’re not sure if you’re up for it. Or if it’s going to be doable.
It’s for this reason that we run training each Spring + Autumn in small-scale, organic market gardening skills.
Typically, folks who join us for these courses are either considering full-time growing, but not growing anything yet, or are looking for an enterprise they can add to their homestead or farm.
Sometimes folks who come to learn have just done a tree-change and want to grow the majority of their own food at home, selling the excess to their community.
Some folks want to start a farm in the city. Some want to start a farm in the country. Backyards, frontyards, paddocks and spare blocks.
It can all become a thriving vegetable garden, once you know how.
Our Intro to Organic Market Gardening course is for those who are keen, but starting from absolute scratch.
There’s a lot to learn – enterprise design, crop selection, plot design, rotations, irrigation, assessing your future market, likely pests, soil prep, planting, tending, weeding, harvesting + marketing…
All excellent skills to learn if you’re wanting to grow in serious quantities, and you want to succeed in getting a viable harvest in your first year.
This Spring this course will take place partly in the city, for our theory sessions, and partly at Common2Us, a community organic farm that our teacher, Michael Hewins, has been managing for a few years now.
It will be a big three days. Maybe we’ll see you there.
Our Market Garden Masterclass is for those who know how to grow things, but are looking to learn more with established, long-term market gardeners, on their farm in Gundaroo.
Most folks who do this course are either managing large home or school of even market gardens already, and are ready to take in all that extra detail that you get with a dive-straight-into-it three day course.
This Spring, as usual, we’re holding this course at Allsun Farm with our long-time growing mentors, Joyce Wilkie + Michael Plane. Expect to be dirty, well fed and knowledgeable by the time you leave this one!
So if you’re ready to make this Spring the season you begin to take your future growing enterprise dreams into your own hands, we’d love to help you on your journey.
