Next Wednesday in Sydney there’s a great night happening at Paddington Town Hall with Bob Brown, Ian Cohen and COSTA!
Are you coming?
The Tarkine Wilderness is home to over 60 endangered species and the largest remaining unbroken tract of temperate rainforest in the southern hemisphere.
With National Heritage and World Heritage recommendations, the Tarkine is the last stronghold of many critically endangered species.
The first of ten open cut mining proposals is about to start operations and approvals for others are being challenged in the federal court.
Next door to the Tarkine at Savage River… is this what we’re going to allow to happen to our last great southern wilderness?Time to act! Hence this fundraiser, and the making of The Battle for the Tarkine documentary by Julian Knysh.
If you want some background on what’s at stake here, see ABC Analysis: The battle for Tasmania’s Tarkine Wilderness and also Inside Story; Drawing a fine line in the Tarkine.
There’s going to be an exhibition of Tarkine photography by Australia’s best loved wilderness and nature photographers including Steve Parish, Chris Bell, Kipp Nunn, Peter Walton and more.
As part of the night, Costa will be auctioning off some of these amazing photographers work, as well as a place on our Urban PDC coming up this January – what a score!
There will be live cello to Tarkine imagery, conversations with environmental legends, new friends and good food.
And the chance to stand up and be counted on an issue that deserves all our support.
As a past on-air fundraiser host for various PBS stations, I would be glad to help you with this if you will just fly me over (lol). Good luck with the fundraiser. I will be donating from Spokane, WA USA
These Tasmanians thank you!
Oh my I wish I was there!!!
As a Mainlander, now Tasmanian, I am DEEPLY ashamed of what our nepotistic hick state government is doing in order to sell Tasmania to the highest bidder. At the moment, it’s open to the lowest bidder. Desperation breeds stupidity. Our state governments are both inherently stupid by default :(.
Totally agree with the above. Also a new Tasmanian and do anything to protect this amazing area from a short term mine (10 years’ worth of minerals?) that will employ very few people and not even locals (FIFO more like). Need some long term sustainable innovation for this amazing and vulnerable state. Good luck with your fund raiser.
