Rightio then. Who wants to come and get their hands dirty and help out at the 107 Rooftop Garden?
Saturday May 2nd marks the beginning of our monthly garden dig-ins – a morning of garden chores, learning, new friends and dirty fingernails.
Each time there will be a short workshop, followed by the glory of seasonal garden chores. Chores are the best. So much to do and learn.
Spectators please stay home, do-ers please come on up!
May 107 Rooftop SkyGardening:
Saturday 2nd: 10am – 12pm
Level 1/ 107 Redfern Street, Redfern.
Enter via door + stairwell to the left of main 107 frontage – how to get there.
Workshop:
Making great seed raising mix – the foundation of great seedlings is a good seed raising mix. Once you’ve got this technique down, there’s nothing stopping you and your chosen seeds getting to healthy seedling stage.
Chores:
The garden took a bit of a beating in the wild weather just past, so we’ll be cleaning the beds up, and pulling out whatever didn’t make it.
We’ll also be sowing a raft of Autumn seedlings, and attending to the willows, now that they’ve lost most of their leaves for winter.
We’ll also prep the site for the stingless beehive, which will be installed in the garden in June.
Once everything is done and dusted, we’ll share a rooftop garden inspired snack and a glass of cordial, and send you off with thanks and knowledge.
Bring:
- Non-precious clothes for working in
- Garden gloves if you’re that way inclined
- Sun hat and raincoat (not sun nor rain shall dissuade us)
- A plastic bag/container to take some seed raising mix home in
- Gumption and good vibes!
These dig-in days are free for all. Well-wrangled kids welcome, please leave pets at home.
Come Winter we’ll start up our community seedling supply – free seedlings each month for you to take home and plant. Just figuring out the details of that bit currently.

If you get there a bit early, the 107 cafe downstairs serves great coffee + wholesome food, including rooftop garden produce! All cafe revenue goes straight back into 107 Projects – support your local creatives, so they can support you.
This event is run by Milkwood as part of our fair share. Thanks to everyone who’s helped make this garden grow, and to 107 Projects for the space + support!
